Kinect sample code posted

During my January 25 presentation, Augmented Reality with the Kinect, I promised to post my code. This will come in two pieces. The first set, Kinect with WPF is linked to below. The second set, Kinect with XNA, is coming soon. I am converting the Kinect with XNA version to work with the commercial API and cleaning it up a little.

The Kinect with WPF sample code is available online now. I have linked to it in my blog.

I will update the blog and send out an update when I get the Kinect with XNA sample posted.

LDNUG: February Meeting Change

Sent: 2/10/2012 2:24:09 PM
Our speaker for February was double booked for the week of our event, and has had to cancel. So let's have a laptop meeting! The meeting this month will be on February 29th.

For those of you who do not know, laptop meetings are meetings where you, the attendee, get to be the presenter. Bring your laptop and show us something cool. Think of these as short, 10-20 minute talks on a specific topic - something you've learned recently, or how you overcame a tough development problem at work. We'd prefer to se some code, but if you just want to talk through something with slide, or using the whiteboard, that's fine too.

So start thinking about what you want to talk about at the meeting. For those of you who are going to be speaking at Nebraska Code Camp, this will be a good opportunity to try out some material, or see how effective a particular demo will be.

This will be an open format, meaning anyone can raise their hard and present something when we ask, but I'd prefer if you could email me (adam@adambarney.com) your idea ahead of time so we have an idea of home much material will be available.

Thanks!

P.S. If you have a Windows Phone 7 (and if you don't, you should!), you can now download the official Lincoln .NET Users Group app from the Windows Phone Marketplace! Beware of all those unofficial LDNUG apps that are polluting the marketplace! :P

LDNUG: Meeting Tomorrow!

Sent: 1/24/2012 12:13:37 PM
It's time to kick off the new year of Lincoln .NET Users Group Meeting!

Our first meeting this year will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25th from 6-8pm. We're going to be at a new location this month. Our host will be the HobbyTown Corporate Headquarters building at 1233 Libra Drive (just south of 14th & Pine Lake Roads). Go to our website for a map.

This month: Augmented reality with C#, Windows 7, and Microsoft Kinect

Microsoft's Kinect represents a major leap forward in computer interaction. With a Kinect attached, a computer can now see into the physical world. We will demonstrate how to set up a development environment in Visual Studio with C# using the Microsoft Kinect SDK and developing for fun (profit requires waiting for the next version of the API). We will also look at some techniques for interacting with the Kinect and the computer to create live-action special effects.

Speaker: David Walker

My name is David Walker. For the past year and a half, I have been a software architect and consultant with the state of Nebraska. In the past 12 years, I have served as either a lead developer or architect on projects such as online banking, various business applications, and virtual eyeglass try-on In my spare time, I am researching technologies that mix the real and virtual worlds for purposes such as computer interfaces, smart phone interfaces and movie special effects.

Let us know you're coming

Please don't forget to register for the event! If you do not register by noon of the day of the event, you will not be eligible for giveaways, and you will be asked to wait until the break to get pizza to make sure those who did register get some first. Registering is easy! Just go to http://www.lincolndev.net/Events/January2012, and click the RSVP link at the bottom of the page.

See you all tomorrow!
